Battle for Iwo Jema
It was a cold Sunday morning, it had just finished raining. All you can hear was gunshots and the soldiers and yelling, get down and move, move, move. It was John, Frankie, (Franklin) Harlon, Ira, Rene, and me. We were hiding in a ditch with five other soldiers. Hoping no Japanese soldiers would find us. My name is Michael Stank, if you haven’t noticed I’m in the military. My buds and I could die anytime in the next 4 years. We will be lucky to get out of here alive. Frankie said nervously, “That’s our queue we’ve got to go in 2 minutes.” I was so nervous. There were other soldiers on the other side of the ditch to tell us if it was clear to go find another spot for snipping. Ira said, “I hear footsteps.” Rene whispered, “We have got to get out of here.” At that moment we all turned around and there was about 15 Japanese soldiers standing there. Luckily we killed them all without anyone getting hurt. “1 minute.” yelled Frankie. I was really scared that I was going to get killed, “go go go!” We all ran to the next station. The Japanese soldiers must have heard us. The solders were everywhere. Gunshots fired everywhere. We killed at least 50 soldiers with only 10 people. We could see that only 30 Japanese soldiers were left. Everybody was thinking to themselves: “Can we kill them all?” “Where do I go, what do I do?” We were hiding behind really big barrels of gunpowder. We were running low on gunpowder so we decided to take some with us.
We kept moving to different stations. We had to move again in 30 seconds. Harlon whispered, “That’s our queue.” We got the signal and we all ran as fast as we could lugging all of our equipment along it was really heavy. The Japanese soldiers must have heard us running they shot 5 of our soldiers. We made it to the other side of the battle field. We pegged every soldier in sight. Except one. We tried really hard to get him but we kept missing him because he was running all over the place! He was guarding the Japanese flag on mount. Iwo Jema. Then all of a sudden there was a really big explosion from the gunpowder. It killed the last soldier and it went way up into the air and landed on Michael. He yelled, “EWWW GROSS GET IT OFF OF ME.” When Ira got the body off of Michael, we all realized that we just won the battle.
It was the year 1949.We all got to go home; we promised everyone that we would never forget each other.
